NSX GT MODEl
NSX GT MODEl

The new NSX GT car received its new model change in two years. The outer panels have retained the look of the old NSX while conforming to the new regulations and redesigned to new aerodynamics. The package layout has been totally renewed to make full use of the new compact engine and includes a new gearbox, new roll cage layout and suspension and has become a completely different car from the old version. From the start of development the basic concept was low center of gravity, ideal balance and good aerodynamic characteristics. In laymans terms these could be interpreted as "lower, more natural and milder" but what really went on is as follows.

Modifications

Lower center of gravity
More compact engine and gearbox.
Modifications to the exhaust pipe layout etc.
A lighter frame body.
Stiffer Chassis
A Stiffer Suspension
Redesigned Suspension Geometry
More Braking Power
More Engine Cooling Capacity
Better Shift and Pedal Feeling
mprovements to the Cockpit Layout
Modifications to ease pitwork
Modifications to ease maintenance and servicing
The pursuit of Ideal Balance
The pursuit of Best Aerodynamic Characteristics
After600hours of Wind Tunnel Testing Time we were able to come up with an aerodynamics package which had better characteristics than the 99 model. From low speed to high speed, during braking, cornering and acceleration this showed very mild changes in its characteristics.

  drag downforce L/D
front rear
99 100 100 100 100
99 Mod 100 100 87 92
00 102 110 103 104

These figures are at the very limits of the 25% scale model we currently use for development!

From the above you can see that the new NSX was succeeded in raising its potential far above the old model despite the changes to the regulations. From now on we have to work to rule out the minor troubles that arise due to some parts that were a little too highly tuned and thus add "durability" to "speed".
